The Okefenokee Swamp is a shallow, 438,000-acre (177,000 ha), peat-filled wetland straddling the Georgia–Florida line in the United States. The name "Okefenokee" is a Native American word meaning "trembling earth."

Two species of cypress reside within the Everglades of Georgia USA, the bald cypress and the pond cypress. These trees were harvested during the early to mid 1900s and their durable wood used to make shingles, siding, cross ties, fenceposts, and picklebarrels. What we see today in the deep south swamps is second growth cypress which make a serene and beautiful reflection across the inky waters as we glide past.
