Hello Jamie,

Traveling and photographying with Jaime in Tasmania for was truly a magnificent, once-in-a-lifetime experience.  The whole trip was organized flawlessly and seamlessly, striking a nice balance between optimizing top shooting locales with decent downtime to process, review and refine our work.  He is a willing, generous and capable teacher - always there to lend a hand with thoughtful, excellent advice. His love for photography and storytelling is infectious -- you not only learn but also have plenty of humor along the way.  He was able to show me a part of Tasmania that is easy to fall in love with - can't wait to return, hopefully with the master himself.

Look forward to a repeat soon!

To All,

I recently returned from a month long workshop with Jaime covering the remote reaches of Northwest Tasmania and Southern New Zealand.  While traveling with Jaime is always a fun and never a dull moment, he provided the perfect balance of travel distance and expertly selected shooting locations.  Always available and approachable to discuss any issue, Jaime is a wonderful coach and mentor when it comes to all elements of photography.  Thanks Jaime for a wonderful time.

Looking forward to returning very soon.

Hi Jamie, just a photo i came across the other day, My wife and I met you at Cradle Mountain, Tasmania last April 2015, You helped us out onto a large rock boulder and gave us both some helpful advice for our shots.  We loved the experience so much that we are going back in March this year for three weeks to capture the West Coast. I happened to find a video of you while recently doing some Youtube studies on places to go on our next trip, when we stumbled on your video diaries, we spotted your flight on the chopper, we must have gone on the same day as you, we were the last flight for the day, and was asked if we had any problem to go with the doors off on the chopper as there had been removed for some professional photographers, well we jumped in that chance doesn't come by very often, what a blast.   A flight to rembember, they had already put on the right rear door when we arrived, during flight the door came open, swung wide open by rotor wash, my wife Jane was asked to slide over and see if she could shut it , which surprised me that she did when asked, but to no luck as the door jammed and could not be locked, so we headed far west to a rock outcrop where we had to set down, repairs done, and off again, due to the inconvience we were treated to double flight time, a little fright but what a bonus with regards Jeff and Jane Patterson   (new to photography but loving it, thank you for taking time to help us.)

Thanks again
Jeff and Jane Patterson.

I would like to say a big thankyou to Jaime "JD" for inspiring me to get into photography, I have travelled many many countries around the world and have taken many photos but none of my photos have come close to the quality that I now take since I met Jaime in Antarctica, I had never met anyone that is so enthusiastic about photography and so keen on inspiring others to get into this art.

I went on a trip to Antarctica  in 2010 with a $200 point an shoot camera and saw Jamie across the hall from me in his cabin with all this great photography equipment, I asked if maybe I could buy some photos off of him at the end of the trip so that I had some great photos of Antarctica instead of mediocre photos from my cheap point and shoot, he was not interested in selling me photos but handed me one of his own cameras and told me to use that for the rest of the trip!!!,  the help that he gave me in how to work the camera and even to the extent of editing my photos at the end of the trip was unbelievable. My travels are so much more enjoyable now that I know how to take great photos and my memories are so much better now that they are captured in great quality photos thanks to Jaime.

I am so happy that we met and I can't wait to catch up soon. Your new website is a credit to you mate. congratulations.

I can’t recommend JD’s work and passion for photography enough! I have enjoyed every outing with Jaime "JD" and every one was an invaluable learning experience for me, I had the opportunity to do mostly one on one workshops with JD (Inspiring Experiences from Mountain Workshop, to sports and sunset shots, macro photography, beach and seascape photography) and are full of information and new techniques and approaches, he taught me the digital concept and each outing was full of tips and instruction on how to use the aperture, shutter speed & ISO settings etc.

I have enjoyed photography for a number of years now and since I met JD, the combined passion and enthusiasm for photography has got me fired up and motivated again to get back into it. Jaime has made it a more life enhancing experience by looking through the camera, seeing the lines, seeing the colors, seeing what it is that takes your attention and capturing that moment. The times I spent with Jamie I found him easy to learn from with his passionate teaching technique and tips that have significantly improved my photography.

Jaime' photography is simply outstanding, and his wide knowledge about photography is immaculate not one question he hasn’t got an answer too. I can only recommend to anyone that you to go and experience his workshops one day, maybe one day I will have a “dormer” on my wall!.

Hi Jaime,

I hope all’s going well. Just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks very much for all of your help with SLSQ photography over the past year. We ended up using a couple of your images in this year’s annual report (all were credited to JDP Online). I popped a copy of the report in the post yesterday for you to have a look, so it should be arriving there in the next day or two. They came up really well! An electronic version will also be up on our website in the next few days.

Cheers,

Hi Jaime,

On behalf of all Photo Arts Club members , I want to sincerely thank you for your wonderful presentation at our club meeting in November 2011.  It was a pleasure to have you as a guest speaker at our club and we appreciate the time and effort that you put into your presentation.  It was obvious that you have a passion for your photography and your willingness to share your knowledge was most appreciated and rewarding to all.  It was evident from the number of questions from members that you captivated us with your inspirational presentation.

Hi Jamie, how are you? I just wanted to give you some feedback for the amazing 60 inch canvas of a sunrise at Fingal Head you produced for me. That headland is of particular significance to me as it is one of my favourite beaches in northern NSW and I spend a lot of time there with my girlfriend. I gave the it to her as a birthday present last Thursday and she was completely amazed by it. The photographic skills and retouching of this image are second to none. It is artistically amazing and is now the centrepiece artwork for our house. We couldn't be happier with the result, it will be a lifelong piece of artwork which will always remind us of so many happy days around Fingal.

Thanks very much for producing such an amazing piece for me, I couldn't be more impressed with your work, thanks again, stay in touch & best regards.

Thanks for letting me come along on the drive with you to the Hunter Valley recently, I really appreciated you sharing your time and knowledge, for letting me learn and grow and pushing me outside my comfort zone and for the value of your experiences. It was an awesome week, thank you for taking me a step closer to my dream.   I certainly did learn a lot, technically and socially, thanks again.

Hi Jaime,

Just wanted to let you know the prints came through and we are extremely happy with them, the whole process from initial contact to the receipt of the prints has been very professional, the patience and manner you worked through the post- processing was important to me as you displayed on all occasions that you had my interests at heart, still being able to tactfully say what you thought would work to give maybe a better result for the finished product.

Also I would like to also comment on your process through your Dropbox, this made life so much easier for me in more ways than one. It is quick, efficient and easy to use.  Jaime with services you are offering and me knowing the obvious talent you have for shooting images makes it easier for me to get out and enjoy what I enjoy doing most and that is taking PICS.

I first met Jaime Dormer on Hamilton Island, a year ago. There was a small workshop for 10 people with Art Wolfe. I was a beginner photographer, and I was very happy that I had the opportunity to learn from one of the best photographers in his field. The added bonus was that Arts’ workshop attracted a number of  very good photographers that I have met and kept in touch with. Jaime is one of them.

One day Jaime mentioned that he was going to do a photography workshop in New Zealand, and he was planning to go there a week earlier with another fellow photographer, to travel around the South Island before the workshop started. I have expressed interest and he offered for me to tag along.

I was so excited to travel around with professional guys, taking photos and see how they go about things, but at the same time I was quite apprehensive about it; I didn’t want to hinder them in any way. I was conscious not to hold them up and not be in their way, but at the same time I wanted to see how pros go about things and to learn and grow as a photographer. And what an opportunity that was!

We had a 4WD packed to the rafters with camera gear, there were three of us travelling in one car, so you can imagine the stuff we had to pack in. And we stopped often as Jaime always kept his eyes open for a photo opportunity. I learned quite early on that packing and unpacking all the gear every time you stop to take a photo doesn’t quite work, so we travelled with extended tripod legs, lenses mounted on cameras, filters stuffed in my pockets, etc.. After couple of days I got the hang of it and was ready to shoot as soon as Jaime stopped the car. (Thanks for your patience Jaime). But when he stopped to take a shot of a harvester on a farm, I baulked and didn’t even wanted to get out of the car. I could not understand why would anyone want a picture of a harvester?! when we are photographing beautiful New Zealand?! But Jaime was shooting stock footage as well as awesome landscapes. And as well as looking for a bear, but that’s another story… So I have an obligatory picture of a red harvester in my library for anyone interested, but did not find a bear …

We travelled through some of the most breathtaking country I’ve seen; we started in Christchurch, through Arthurs Pass, Franz Joseph glacier, Fox glacier, Haast, Wanaka; into Queenstown, where I said good-by to Jaime, John (and John’s friend Max who joined us half way through); they went on to their workshop and I stayed on for a couple of days. I went to photograph around Glenorchy and then headed north, to Mt.Holdsworth near Wellington.

I learned so much on this trip – Jaime was very helpful in showing me different angles that opened my eyes, seeing details, different point of a view; I thank him for his willingness to share his vast technical knowledge, in a very easy and understandable way, chatting as we were driving through the country side, over lunch or whenever I popped a question. And it didn’t stop there; he was also happy to share his post-shoot workflow, tricks and secrets of Lightroom, organizing photos, etc. etc.. I think anyone who has ever travelled with Jaime would agree with me, his passion for photography is infectious and I arrived back home feeling like my photography jumped miles ahead just in this very short time.

I also learned, that if Jaime has his EB’s, baked beans and toast for breakfast, his packet of lollies to munch on, good steak, plenty of cold beer at the end of the day, and a continuous supply of a ‘good brew’ in a cup that’s at least bigger than a cimbal, it makes his day almost as good as bringing home loads of good pictures.

I want to share few of my images from the trip, hope you like them; I still have tons to learn, but I am happy with my progress so far and especially after being on road with Jaime. And I hope this was not our last trip together

Thankyou Jaime

Irena Prikryl
