Happy Faces
Summer is sunflower season on the Southern Downs in south east Queensland and every year from late December onward a sea of yellow floods parts of the region as spectacular sunflower fields line major highways and country roads around Warwick and Allora.
The sunflower grown and harvested in the are is a large annual of the genus Helianthus grown as a crop for its edible oil and edible fruits. This species is also used as wild bird food, as livestock forage and in some industrial applications.
