Awaking from its winter coat the ancient ridge of mountain peaks soaks up the long missed warmth of spring sunshine. Mossy green vegetation burnt by the harsh winter fights it's way back to life on the baron arid slopes. The harshest of environments, battered by howling arctic winds, driven rain, icy sleet and blizzard snow the mountain has seen it all before and rests now it this perfect clear blue day.
With quiet country sheep farms at it's feet, and powdered white snow fields on it's peaks the solid mammoth of the landscape both guards and protects the New Zealand South Island from it's truly majestic heights. Not often out from it's veiled cloudy hat, today it sit in silent survey of it's vast wilderness surrounds.
