Constructed between 1906 and 1909 the Cape Du Couedic Lighthouse itself is made up of a tower consisting of 2,000 pieces from local stone. Also built from local stone and standing nearby there are three, four-roomed cottages that house the head keeper of the lighthouse, the two assistants, and their families.

When the lighthouse was first built, it actually couldn’t be reached by land, and instead sat on its very own island off the coast. Any stores, materials, and equipment that needed to go inside the lighthouse were deliver by boat and hauled into the edifice by a unique flying fox winching system  that would have, originally, been powered by two horses.
