Lake Baikal Sunrise
Remote and breathtaking Lake Baikal is a massive ancient lake in the mountainous Russian region of Siberia, north of the Mongolian border. Considered the deepest lake and the largest freshwater body in the world it covers an area of 31,722 square km and completely freezes over every winter.
Out on the ice temperatures regularly reach -40 and despite the cold the beauty of the frozen lake is nothing short of spectacular. You can see here the large cracks shoot through the ice as the surface shifts, a hair raising event to experience while photographing on the lake.
