The Meditator (Exhibition)

Carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, USA the Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and attains a depth of over a mile in places. Known for its visually overwhelming size and its intricate and colourful landscape geologically, it is significant because of the thick sequence of ancient rocks that are well preserved and exposed in the walls of the canyon. For thousands of years, the area has been inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves.

While photographing the immense landscape I became aware of the tiny figure perched high up upon the canyon wall sitting serenely taking in the epic views, apparently undaunted by the sheer plunging drop before them. Obviously at one with nature they definitely add not only a sense of scale to the image but seem to glaringly point out just how inconsequential man really is in the grand scheme of our mighty planet.
