Introducing the Busselton Jetty West: Serenity in Blue framed photographic print by Jaime Dormer—an exquisite one-off piece within Dormer’s exhibition collection that captures a serene, western view of Busselton Jetty in the delicate early morning light. This print highlights the iconic jetty’s historical and architectural beauty against the tranquil waters of Geographe Bay, creating a timeless piece of art.
Stretching almost two kilometres into the Indian Ocean, Busselton Jetty stands as the longest timber jetty in the world. Constructed and extended between 1853 and 1960, it was originally built to transport timber from the bay to waiting ships beyond the shallow waters. Until 1972, the jetty served as a vital trade link before the local shire assumed responsibility for its preservation and ongoing maintenance. Today, Busselton Jetty remains a living connection to Western Australia’s maritime history.
Dormer chose to photograph the jetty in the predawn hours, anticipating a tranquil and deserted beach. The result is a view that captures the front face of the jetty’s characteristic warehouses, illuminated gently by the still-burning lights. The cool blue tones of the sand, water, and sky create a harmonious, calming palette, drawing the viewer’s gaze along the full stretch of the pier.
Dormer describes the experience:
“Wanting to capture this historical jetty and magnificent scene to its fullest potential, I arrived very early to photograph in the predawn light, also predicting the beach would be blissfully deserted and the lights still burning along the full length of the pier. This western view takes advantage of the front face of the jetty warehouses and the gorgeous cool blue tones throughout the sand, water, and sky.”
