Step into the cool tranquillity of a pre-dawn morning with Busselton Jetty Westside Print ~ 2014, an evocative depiction of one of Australia’s most iconic coastal landmarks. Stretching nearly two kilometres into the Indian Ocean, the Busselton Jetty is the longest timber jetty in the world. Captured by Jaime Dormer, this image reflects the serene beauty of Western Australia's coastline, with the soft, cool blues of the early morning blending the sky, water, and sandy beach into a mesmerising tableau.
"Stretching almost 2 km into the Indian Ocean off the Western Australian coastline Busselton Jetty is the longest timber jetty in the world. Built and extended between 1853 and 1960 because the shallow waters of Geographe Bay restricted ship movement, the long jetty was required to transport cut timber cargo to waiting ships. It served this purpose up until 1972 at which time the jetty's control was passed over to the local shire who have been restoring and upkeeping the structure ever since.
Wanting to capture this historical jetty and magnificent scene to its fullest potential I arrived very early to photograph in the predawn light also predicting the beach would be blissfully deserted and the lights still burning along the full length of the pier. This western view takes advantage of the front face of the jetty warehouses and the gorgeous cool blue tones throughout the sand, water and sky."
Jaime Dormer’s dedication to capturing this historic jetty at its most majestic is evident in every detail. Arriving before the first rays of sunlight, Jaime sought to encapsulate the peaceful, undisturbed nature of the jetty at dawn, predicting that the deserted beach and the glowing pier lights would lend the perfect mood to the scene. The result is a stunning composition that captures the timeless charm of Busselton Jetty—the warm glow of lights along the pier, the glass-like stillness of the ocean, and the dreamy pre-dawn sky—all merging into an image that evokes tranquillity and nostalgia.
This high-resolution print highlights every intricate feature of the scene, from the subtle reflection of lights on the calm water to the delicate gradient of colours as the sky transitions from night to morning. The cool blue tones, unmarred by tourists or other obstructions, give this image an ethereal quality, enhancing its exclusivity as a unique piece of artwork.
