Carcory Homestead Ruins
The closest town to the Carcory Homestead, built in 1877 is Birdsville in the far south-west corner of Queensland. Constructed from local limestone by Hector and Norman Wilson it is an example of the rich history of the dusty Diamantina Shire.
Abandoned by Sir Sydney Kidman after battling extreme drought in the early 1900s the ruins are today part of Roseberth Station and serve as a reminder of early settlement in the area, often attracting tourists with its intriguing architecture. The buildings remains are now listed with the Australian Naitonal Trust.
