Cliffs of Uzur
Deep in south-east Siberia lies the oldest lake in the world, 3.15-million-ha of pure fresh water which adds up to 20% of the world's total unfrozen freshwater reserve in the summer. In the heart of winter though it completely freezes over to form a winter paradise of Ice and wonder.
Uzury is a tiny village in the Bay Haga-Yaman of Lake Baikal at the Eastern shore of Olkhon Island. Known as the 'Galapagos of Russia', its age and isolation have produced one of the world's richest and most unusual freshwater faunas, which is of exceptional value to evolutionary science.
